From Browns failure to a green jacket?
Johnny Manziel hopes to make the leap from the field to the green as a professional golfer, which he discussed on a recent episode of the “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast.
“I’m giving myself 12 years to try and play professional golf,” Manziel, 28, said.
Describing his play as a “work in progress,” Manziel said he is ready to “grind this out” in hopes of eventually making a PGA tour event.
“I’m going to grind this out and see how good I could get, and see if I can’t enter in some tournaments, and see if I can’t go try and play professional golf, eventually,” Manziel said.
“I think it is a very uphill battle, but that’s what I’m setting for my goals. Twelve years to try to make a PGA tour event.”
Manziel has been playing golf since he was 5 years old and learned the sport from his father Paul.
A former Heisman Trophy winner, Manziel was selected 22nd overall by the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, and spent two turbulent seasons in Cleveland.
In recent years, Manziel has opened up about personal struggles, revealing in a 2018 interview with “Good Morning America” that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Following his time in the NFL, Manziel competed in the CFL and the now-defunct Alliance of American Football League. Recently, he made his debut in the Fan Controlled Football league.
Manziel is giving his golf goals an expiration date of 2033.
